Children and Young People Trustee

Our mission is to prevent ill mental health in the area, reduce barriers, stigma and waiting lists, and promote a positive future for better mental health.

 We’re looking for new trustees to join our board. Trustees are our most senior leaders. They set out strategic direction, make sure we’re using resources effectively and ensure we’re having the greatest possible impact on our community. Trustees are expected to undertake duties in a manner that reflects SECE Mind’s values and ethos.

We’re looking for dedicated, empathetic and ambitious candidates to help make our mission a reality and lead us closer towards delivering our strategy.


Job description:      

       To oversee the strategic engagement of CYP across South East and Central Essex Mind area.

·         To be well versed in the CYP policies and practices and implement them within the SECE Mind culture and governance.

·         To champion SECE Mind CYP safeguarding issues to the board and committees.

·         To be an ambassador for CYP across the SECE Mind charity and area.

·         Participate in SECE Mind CYP programme design and delivery

·         Oversee and support a CYP advisory programme for the voicebox (lived experience).

·         Support the CEO and board in delivering the new 3 year business plan and ensure quality of delivery for CYP.

What skills do I need?

·         Solid understanding of CYP issues and Mental Health Awareness.

·         Experience of CYP engagement

·         Experience of CYP programme design and delivery

·         Evidence of CYP advocacy

·         Excellent communication skills and knowledge of CYP social media platforms

·         Experience of legislation process and practices around CYP

·         Safeguarding of CYP

Availability Details

We require trustees to be available every 2 months for a board meeting in person (with hybrid option available if unable to attend in person) from 6pm-8pm on a Tuesday evening. Trustees are also expected to attend subcommittee meetings 2-3 weeks prior to the next board meeting where they use this as an opportunity to make notes and report back to the board. Every now and then we will ask our trustees to attend events or volunteer for us for example every year we facilitate a Mental Elf run.
