A new volunteer role has recently been created to provide urgent, ad-hoc support to people living independently at home across the Tendring district. Volunteers may be required to fulfil various roles including:
- Welfare check (home visit)
- Befriending/providing a listening ear or having a chat
- support to make light meal/snack
- Support with paperwork (letters, forms, phone calls)
- Encouraging simple seated exercise or similar
- Light cleaning duties
- Light Shopping, prescription collection
- Household tasks e.g. changing light bulbs
Volunteers may be requested to support people for short periods of time of up to 6 weeks who have recently been discharged from hospital or to prevent someone from being admitted back into hospital.
No personal care tasks will be undertaken
This can make all the difference to those who come home to an empty house, maybe after a long stay in hospital and with no family or friends to help out.
What skills do I need?
People with the ANY of the following skills would be welcomed:

Training
The following mandatory on-line training courses will need to be completed in order to undertake any of these roles and volunteers will be given access to an e-learning platform to achieve this:
Lone Working (including Boundaries)
Data Security Awareness - Level 1
Mental Capacity Act and Adult Safeguarding
Health Safety and Welfare - Level 1
Equality, Diversity and Human Rights - Level 1
