We are recruiting volunteers in the Epping and Harlow areas who understand how tough parenting can be and wish to share their knowledge with other parents.
The volunteer role requires a commitment of 2-3 hours a week to visit a family at a mutually convenient time and offer friendship, encouragement and practical help. Volunteers can support parent(s) with all aspects of parenting, helping the family to get out of the house and access their local community.
With support from Home-Start staff, volunteers can help sign-post parents and support them at appointments to help their lives move on in a positive direction.
Volunteers will receive training through our online live training sessions to prepare you to volunteer. As a volunteer you will make a long lasting difference to families who need a helping hand. The benefit to children is long-term: reducing the risk of problems escalating in the future to ensure they have a happy and secure family life.
Home-Start Essex's approach is very personal and friendly and this often reassures parents that what they are going though is not unusual and that they are not alone.
What skills do I need?
You need to have parenting experience, be approachable and able to identify with parents who need support.
You will be subject to an enhanced DBS check before being carefully matched with a family where your own set of experiences and skills can help the most.
Location: Support will be in the family home or via telephone. Sometimes it will involve going out into the community with a family.
