Lead Trustee for Volunteers

Action for Family Carers, an established charity for over 30 years, is seeking a Volunteer Trustee who can understand and support Volunteers. The Trustee Board is well established with committed Trustees who are keen to increase the skills mix.

This role would involve helping to develop strategic direction and provide governance, whilst supporting the Board of Trustees in understanding and recognising the impact Volunteers have and the value they bring to the wider team.

Action for Family Carers supports unpaid family Carers across Essex, providing a range of services, activities, support, advice and guidance. Some of the services are volunteer-led such as befriending and counselling and currently there are approximately 220 Volunteers, who are led by the Volunteer Coordinator.

The Trustee Board meet 6 times per year along with some sub-groups and have a mix of working age and retired professionals.

What skills do I need?

Interest, knowledge and/or experience of working in a Volunteer-Led organisation, or with an organisation that has a substantial number of Volunteers that complement the existing workforce would be advantageous  Drive and enthusiasm, and a commitment to supporting unpaid Carers who are so often overlooked is essential.
