Volunteers are required to assist in the smooth running of Rayleigh Town Museum.
The role includes meeting and greeting museum visitors, engaging with the general public and any special professional visitors, answering questions related to any aspect of the Museums work, recording visitor numbers and `official` visitors of any kind, updating the museum diary and recording any `incidents` in the Incident Diary. You will be required to assist the Duty Supervisor with the Opening and Closing procedures and recording the need for any repairs or maintenance.
Volunteers also help with research, cataloguing and conservation of our many exhibits.
Volunteers are sometimes required to help at out of hours and evening events that are held to promote the museum in the community.
We also have a team of volunteers who undertake general everyday maintenance duties.
Some of our volunteers help with school visits.
What skills do I need?
Friendly and outgoing personality although if front of house isn’t your thing, why not volunteer to do research for us?
An interest in local history would be useful but not essential.
Some computer knowledge or skills would be useful.
Clear handwriting and an enquiring mind would be useful assets for cataloguing and research volunteers.

When can I volunteer?
Start Date: 20/05/2021
End Date: 20/05/2022
Usually for half day sessions on either Wednesday, Friday, Saturday or Sundays. A monthly rota is sent to all volunteers requesting their availability. It is hoped that volunteers can cover at least two or three sessions (mornings and/or afternoons) a month.
