Association Visitor - Essex

Do you have some experience or knowledge of MND? Do you enjoy listening to and helping people?  Are you looking for a volunteering role where you can do just that, and fits in around your family, studies or other commitments? We are looking for an Association Visitor volunteer to join us in making a real difference to the lives of people locally that are affected by MND.  If you feel you have the time and skills and want to help your local community, please do get in touch. We are looking for Volunteers across Essex and you will be linked to people local to you

As an Association Visitor, you will:

•        offer emotional support to people living with and affected by MND

•        provide information to people living with MND, their carers and families

•        help people living with MND make informed choices

•        help people to access appropriate services / support

•        explain how the MND Association can support people living with MND, their carers and families

•        record information, following the MND Association guidelines and local protocols

•        develop and maintain relationships with our local Branch or Group

•        attend support and supervision meetings, as well as development events.

The time required is flexible, but we expect Association Visitors to commit to a minimum of 2 - 4 hours per week. For this role you need to be able to work as part of a team, liaise with health and social care professionals and have the ability to develop and maintain supportive relationships.

You’ll be inducted into the role and informed about the Association. As part of this, you will receive training and mentoring. The training programme will also include experiential and reflective learning.

We are committed to offering equal opportunities to all applicants who meet the criteria for this role.  In addition, whilst all applicants will be assessed by merit alone, we particularly welcome applications from candidates who are male, from black and minority ethnic backgrounds or who have a disability as these are currently under-represented within the volunteering workforce.

About us

MND is a fatal, rapidly progressive disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles refuse to work. It can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breath. It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis, and it has no cure.

The MND Association was founded in 1979. Our mission is to improve care and support for people with MND, their families and carers. We also fund and promote research that leads to new understanding and treatments and brings us closer to a cure for MND.

Communication skills; Empathy; Compassion; Understanding of MND and/or local services to support people with MND an advantage
