Can you help isolated people to get out and about?
Community360 operate a Community Transport scheme in both Colchester and Maldon. This provides transport for isolated people who cannot access public transport due to limited mobility or rural location.
The majority of our members live in a socially isolated environment and are spread across the Districts. Having access to affordable door-to-door transport helps with simple everyday tasks like shopping, visiting friends/social clubs and attending medical appointments (GP and hospital), tasks that most of us take for granted. Getting out of the house makes a huge difference to a person's quality of life, increasing independence and giving someone a new lease of life.
We are looking for volunteers to drive our fully accessible minibuses, or their own cars. Our drivers transport a variety of groups and charities to various events, such as day long excursions and theatre trips. The role may also require you to transport older and disabled people to day centres and luncheon clubs.
Our mini buses are fully accessible and adapted with grab handles and tail-lifts that can be used to take people who need to travel in their wheelchairs.
We cover out of pocket expenses and provide relevant training including induction, Safeguarding and MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme for bus drivers)
What skills do I need?
A desire to carry out a meaningful activity to give practical help to the local community.
You will need to be over 21, hold a full driving licence, be able to supply two references as well as undergo a DBS check. Minibus drivers ideally need some relevant experience of driving larger vehicles.
