The Basildon Borough Volunteer Awards are back to recognise the amazing achievements and contributions that volunteers make across the borough.
Voting for the People’s Choice Award 2025 ran from 22/01/25 – 07/02/25 and is now closed (see below). Thank you to everyone that voted.

Basildon Borough Volunteer Award Categories 2025
We received nominations in the following categories:
- The Young Volunteer of the Year Award (11-21yrs or up to 25 years if additional needs) – Award Sponsor: Atlantic Pacific Global Logistics Ltd.
- This award recognises the effort and selfless act of Young People continually helping others. This could be anywhere within Basildon, Billericay or Wickford e.g. in a Community Group, Organisation, School or Neighbourhood.
- Winner – Oliver Townsend
- Highly Commended – Ella Qurrey-Ruane
- Community Star – Award Sponsor: C2C
- To all those volunteers who shine like a star and who deserve recognition. Applicants must be over 21 years of age.
- Winner – Lilianjeen Ogbonna
- Highly Commended – Ian Batley
- Inspirational Role Model Award – Award Sponsor: Leonardo
- This category is for volunteers who really do inspire others with their volunteering story. Nominees should go above and beyond in caring and encouraging others.
- Winner – Maz Salih
- Highly Commended – Kate Morris
- Fundraising Champion – Award Sponsor: Utilize
- For someone who has raised funds for a charity/community group/project and who has made an invaluable contribution.
- Winner – Aston Avery
- Highly Commended – Michael Jones
- Long Service Award – Award Sponsor: Leonardo
- This award recognises the length of service shown by dedicated volunteers. To enter, the volunteer must have been volunteering for at least 10 years.
- Winner – Steve Richardson (FC Redwing)
- Highly Commended – Nandini Biswas (Basildon Parents4Parents)
- Voluntary Group/Project of the Year Award
- This category is for any voluntary group, who have collectively made a difference to their community.
- Winner – Basildon Parents4Parents
- Highly Commended – Human Kind Café
- Lifetime Achievement Award – Award Sponsor: Mother’s Kitchen Cafe
- This new category recognises the tireless efforts of those who have demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the community. The winner of this award will not be eligible for The Volunteer of the Year Award.
- Winner – Lydia Law
- Highly Commended – Sine Surridge
- People’s Choice Award* (see below for details)
- The People’s Choice Award is for anyone and is chosen by the community. It will recognise someone who has gone above and beyond within their voluntary role.
- Winner – John Hailes
Tony Guyon ‘Volunteer of the Year’ Memorial Cup
The winners in the above award categories will be put forward to win the prestigious Tony Guyon ‘Volunteer of the Year’ Memorial Cup.
Tony Guyon was a popular and committed member of Basildon Council’s Community Engagement Team who sadly passed away in 2010. Tony loved to spend his spare time volunteering in his local community and he played his part in helping to make Basildon a better borough. This special award embodies Tony Guyon’s dedication towards volunteering.
